The FOOLS are not a political organization. We will not be involved in union, management, or any other political issue. We are about preserving the tradition and heritage of the fire service and taking care of our brother and sister firefighters. We have been involved with fundraisers, charity events, and helping disadvantaged children receive gifts for Christmas. We believe that this part of what being a member of the FOOLS is all about. The FOOLS also believe in providing real fire training for real firefighters. We believe that it is our duty to be as well trained as we possibly can. This can only keep us, and our brothers and sisters safe on the fire ground. We owe it to ourselves, our brothers and sisters, their families, and to the citizens we protect. We believe in Pride: In our departments, in our stations, in our apparatus, and pride in ourselves.

The FOOLS, like the traditional leather helmet, has always existed throughout the brotherhood of the Fire Service, and will continue to grow and flourish as long as there are fires to fight and emergencies to respond to. The FOOLS are about the brotherhood and tradition that the fire service is based on. When we are in our gear, and trying to make our way down the dark Smokey hallway, we are all the same. All that matters is that you have my back, and I have yours. We do not care if you are a chief, a recruit, a volunteer or a career firefighter, a male, a female or the color of your skin. All we ask is that you are true to your brother and sister firefighter, and to the fire service. All firefighters are welcome to be a part of this great organization; one does not have to own a leather helmet to be considered a

The Holden Fire Department will be hosting the 85th running of the Wachusett Muster League's annual truck muster on Saturday June 18, 2011. The muster features an antique fire engine parade and competition between the Berlin, Bolton, Boylston, Harvard, Holden, Princeton, Sterling and West Boylston Fire Departments. The event kicks off at noon and promises to be fun and entertaining for all.

The Fraternal Order of Leatherheads Society (FOOLS) is an organization that was started in 1995 by a group of Central Florida Firemen. This group, known today as the Founding Fools, had a passion for not only the camaraderie and brotherhood that is forged between firefighters, but the rich tradition and heritage of the Fire Service. Since 1995, this brotherhood has grown to over seven thousand strong. There are chapters all over the world, with new chapters starting almost every day. The Leatherhead is a term used for a firefighter who uses the leather helmet for protection from the hazards we face everyday on the streets. The Leather Helmet, is an international sign of a Firefighter, a symbol that is significant in not only tradition from the early years of firefighting, but one of bravery, integrity, honor and pride. The helmet is a sign of who we are, not what we are.

Western Governors' Association calls to end "wildfire borrowing"

The Western Governors' Association in a letter last week urged U.S. Senate and congressional leadership, and President Barack Obama, to increase federal wildfire budgets so agencies can stop using fire prevention funds for fire suppression. The association said the U.S. Forest Service is again on pace to utilize prevention funds for suppression — known as "fire borrowing" — in a season where Oregon, California and Washington have seen millions of acres of forestland burn.

Texas firefighter stabbed while trying to douse blaze

A firefighter was stabbed Tuesday night while attempting to put out a fire in front of a Yorktown home. The fire department responded to a report of a truck on fire about 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, said Yorktown Police Chief Paul Campos. But when firefighters arrived, they discovered a man burning brush, a couch and a city-issued trash bin in front of his home in the 400 block of West Sixth Street.

California's Junction fire: Aerial battle involved jet and about 75,000 gallons of retardant

One of the key ways the Junction fire was fought was from the air. On Monday, aerial firefighting crews dropped about 75,000 gallons of retardant on the blaze, including Tanker 911, a converted McDonnell Douglas DC-10 that can drop about 12,000 gallons of water or chemicals in one pass. Kenneth Perkins, the U.

AMR, Vegas Fire Department reach deal over patient transport policy

Las Vegas’ dual response system for emergency ambulances is dying. A 911 call for a medical emergency will no longer receive a response from both the Las Vegas Fire Department and American Medical Response. One or the other will be dispatched, not both. After more than a month’s negotiations between the department and AMR, each side gave a little for this proposed contract, which is expected to be signed and presented to the council at its Sept.

Controversial hiring preference not the only thing irking Chicago firefighters

A controversial hiring preference for Chicago Public School graduates is not the only thing that has angered union leaders about the December firefighters entrance exam that will be the city’s first in nearly a decade. So has a requirement that, although 18-year-olds are now permitted to take the exam, they must first produce a high school diploma or GED.
